Stephen Hawking's ashes interred between Newton and Darwin in Westminster Abbey

The cremated remains of Stephen Hawking were interred in Westminster Abbey on Friday, June 15, 2018, between those of Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin, two other giants of science. More than 3,300 Britons are buried or commemorated in the 1,000 year-old abbey, including 17 monarchs - Queen Elizabeth I among them - and some of the nation's greatest musicians, scientists and poets.
Professor Hawking qualified for the honor both in recognition of his contributions to science and in acknowledgement of the inspirational life he lived in the face of great obstacles. Perhaps the world's most famous atheist, that did not disqualify Dr. Hawking. In the words of the Very Reverend John R. Hall, the Dean of Westminister noted that, "Whether a person believes in God or not, if someone is achieving extraordinary things then I believe God is in that process."
Rest in peace, Stephen Hawking. You've earned it.
